University of Ibadan Student Who Promised to Study Law for N50 Egg Roll Celebrates Matriculation

A Nigerian student, Abdulrauf Idris, fulfilled a 13-year promise to his sister to study law for an egg roll after finally matriculating into the University of Ibadan following five years of waiting for admission.

A Nigerian student, Abdulrauf Idris, has gone viral after celebrating his matriculation into the Faculty of Law at the University of Ibadan years after making a childhood promise to his sister.

Idris shared his inspiring story on X on Wednesday, March 11, 2026, explaining that the journey began 13 years ago when he promised his sister he would study law if she bought him an egg roll worth N50. According to him, that small deal became a motivating factor that kept him focused on achieving his dream.

The young man revealed that his path to the university was not immediate. After finishing secondary school, he waited five years before finally gaining admission to study law at the University of Ibadan. Despite the delay, he remained determined to pursue his academic goal.

While waiting for admission, Idris did not remain idle. Instead, he developed skills in the creative industry, building experience as a visual designer, motion designer, and AI enthusiast while still working toward his ambition of studying law.

To celebrate the milestone, Idris posted a photo of himself wearing his matriculation gown and wrote that five years after secondary school, he had finally matriculated as a law student at the University of Ibadan.

His post quickly attracted attention online, gaining more than 14,000 views, around 900 likes, and dozens of comments from people congratulating him and wishing him success in his academic journey.

Many social media users praised his determination and encouraged him to keep pushing forward until graduation.

In a related development, another Nigerian undergraduate recently shared his frustration online after his GPA dropped from 4.2 to 3.22, sparking reactions and words of encouragement from many Nigerians on social media.
