A viral video shows a heated clash between a Niger Delta University lecturer and a female student accused of exam malpractice, escalating when she demanded her seized phone, allegedly smashed the lecturer’s device, and refused to leave the exam hall.

A disturbing video circulating widely on social media captures a heated confrontation between a lecturer and a female student at Niger Delta University (NDU) in Bayelsa State. The incident reportedly occurred inside an examination hall, where the student was accused of engaging in exam malpractice.
According to eyewitnesses, the lecturer had asked the student to leave the hall after suspecting her of cheating. In response, the student demanded that her confiscated mobile phone be returned before she would comply. The situation quickly escalated when she allegedly grabbed the lecturer’s phone and smashed it on the floor during the confrontation.
In the video, which has sparked widespread reactions online, another university official is seen trying to defuse the situation by repeatedly asking the student to exit the hall peacefully. However, the student remained defiant, insisting on retrieving her phone and accusing the lecturer of harassment.
The university’s administration has yet to release an official statement, and attempts by journalists to contact school authorities were unsuccessful as of the time of this report. Meanwhile, spokesperson for the Bayelsa State Police Command, Musa Mohammed, stated: “I will contact the DPO in the area and get back to you.”
The incident has raised renewed concerns about student–lecturer relations, exam integrity, and the handling of disciplinary issues within Nigerian tertiary institutions.
