A Nigerian man, @maaxthewave, finally completed NYSC after a two-year journey marked by absconding for law school, remobilisation setbacks, and restarting the programme due to NYSC regulations.

A Nigerian man, @maaxthewave, has finally completed the National Youth Service Corps (NYSC) programme after a two-year journey. He was initially mobilized for NYSC on November 1, 2023, and completed orientation camp on November 21, 2023. However, he absconded in February 2024 to attend law school and resumed the programme in November 2024, only to be told he had to start afresh due to NYSC regulations.
His remobilisation was eventually approved in January 2025, allowing him to restart officially. This experience highlights the challenges faced by individuals who interrupt their NYSC service.
The NYSC programme is a mandatory, post-tertiary scheme set up by the Nigerian government to foster national unity and cultural integration. Typically, it lasts for one year, comprising a three-week orientation course, 11 months of primary assignment, and community development service.
Interestingly, the Federal Government has proposed extending the NYSC scheme from one year to two years to deepen skills acquisition and boost youth employment.
