Mbah Awards Scholarships to Enugu Students for Winning President’s National Debate Championship

Enugu State Governor Dr. Peter Mbah awarded university scholarships and cash prizes to four students who won the 25th President’s Inter-Secondary School Debate Championship, highlighting the importance of education and pledging continued support for their upcoming international competition in the United States.

Enugu State Governor, Dr. Peter Mbah, has awarded university scholarships and cash prizes to four students who represented the state and won the 25th President’s Inter-Secondary School Debate Championship in Abuja.

The winning team, comprised of students from different schools in Enugu, credited their success to the governor’s commitment and substantial investment in education, noting that the state had not participated in the competition for over a decade due to a lack of support.

Governor Mbah, while receiving the team and the trophy at the Government House, emphasized the importance of education in wealth creation and tackling insecurity, pledging continued investment in the sector.

He announced additional support for the students, who will now represent Nigeria at an international debate competition in the United States, and commended the team’s selection process based on merit.

The team’s captain, Emmanuella Chukwuma, expressed gratitude for the governor’s prioritization of education and assured him they would make Enugu proud in the upcoming competition.

The Chairman of the Post Primary School Management Board (PPSMB), Rev. Fr. Hilary Mgbodile, also praised the governor’s focus on transparency and meritocracy, noting the students were selected through a rigorous statewide competition.
