Abubakar Tafawa Balewa University (ATBU) students made an impressive debut at the 2024 All Nigeria Universities Debating Championships, advancing to the semi-finals and earning recognition in both debating and public speaking categories.


Students from Abubakar Tafawa Balewa University (ATBU), Bauchi, made a remarkable debut at the 2024 All Nigeria Universities Debating Championships (ANUDC), advancing to the semi-finals—an impressive feat for first-time participants.
The competition, hosted at Veritas University in Abuja, featured over 40 teams from universities nationwide. ATBU was represented by two debate teams, two public speakers, and one adjudicator, led by the President of the Students Union Government (SUG), Comrade Fahad Abdullahi.
The ATBU teams successfully competed through eight rounds of preliminary debates and public speaking, reaching the quarterfinals and semifinals, a notable achievement for debut participants.
In the public speaking category, Jane Mann-Effiong reached the semi-finals and was recognized among the top 15 public speakers in the tournament.
The debate teams included Umaru Shekoyemi Gift, Emmanuel John, Florence Ogah Abizun, and Khairat Oyiza Abdulrazaq, while public speakers Jane Mann-Effiong, Gbemisola, and Henry Goni Patrick also performed exceptionally.
Additionally, Muhammad Sadik Abubakar served as an adjudicator, judging seven rounds of debates, according to a statement from Zailani Bappa, Director of the Directorate of Information and Public Relations (I&PR).
