House of Rep Member, Jeremiah Umaru has awarded N10.6 million in cash prizes and laptops to winners of a debate competition among 35 secondary schools in his constituency, with plans to make it an annual event to promote education and public speaking skills.


Nasarawa State House of Rep Member, Jeremiah Umaru has awarded N10.6 million in cash prizes to winners of a debate competition involving 35 secondary schools in his constituency on Saturday.
Umaru, representing Akwanga/Nassarawa-Eggon/Wamba Federal Constituency, stated that the initiative aimed to promote quality education in the area.
He expressed admiration for the participants’ confidence and intellectual abilities, and pledged to continue supporting his constituency by making the debate an annual event to foster networking among students and expose them to best practices.
The program was designed to help students build public speaking skills and create strong networks that would benefit their future academic pursuits.
Command Science Technical Secondary School, Rinze, Akwanga, won the overall prize, with Baptist Academy, Wamba, and Shepherd International College Akwanga finishing as first and second runners-up, respectively.
The overall winner received a cheque for N1 million and five laptops, the first runner-up received N700,000 and three laptops, while the second runner-up received N500,000 and two laptops.
Additionally, the best speaker received N500,000 and a laptop, the second-best speaker received N250,000 and a laptop, and the third-best speaker received N150,000 and a laptop.
Umaru also gave N200,000 and educational materials to each of the remaining 32 participating schools.
