74-year-old Man Graduates US University 50 Years After Dropping P-Out, Achieves Dream

Cursory: David Morris, aged 74, graduated from Harris Stowe State University in the US, fulfilling a lifelong aspiration despite dropping out fifty years ago. Overcoming challenges including a stroke, he emerged as the oldest graduate in both his class and the institution’s history. His story inspires perseverance, showing that with dedication, deferred dreams can be realized.

David Morris, a resident of Missouri, fulfilled his lifelong aspiration of obtaining a university degree by graduating from Harris Stowe State University in the United States at the age of 74. Remarkably, he became the oldest graduate in both his class and the institution’s history.

Reflecting on his journey, David expressed gratitude for the support he received and emphasized the importance of persistence, stating that one should never give up on their dreams and must be willing to fight for them, regardless of the challenges faced along the way.

“I walked across that stage and it seemed like everybody was genuinely happy for me. Don’t give up. If it’s worth it, you got to fight for it,” he said.

David’s journey towards earning his degree commenced after his military service. However, he encountered numerous obstacles along the way, including the tragic losses of his siblings, wife, and daughter, as well as a stroke he suffered in 2007.

Despite these challenges, David remained steadfast in his pursuit, emphasizing the principle that valuable achievements often require considerable effort. He remarked that if others don’t find your dreams ambitious enough to warrant their support, then you’re not aiming high enough.

in his words:

“Nothing worth having comes easy. If you tell somebody your dreams and they’re not laughing and shaking their head at you, you’re not dreaming big enough.”

Karen Czmarko, his academic advisor and success coach, affirmed that David’s perseverance serves as a testament to the idea that it’s never too late to pursue one’s aspirations. She described him as someone who refuses to defer his dreams, regardless of the obstacles he faces.

”This is something I’m going to do. You’re never too old, and it’s never too late,” she added.

David expressed his intention to attend law school and pursue an even grander aspiration of becoming a lawyer.

He also noted that a local attorney, upon learning of his ambitions, has generously offered to support him in gaining admission to law school and successfully passing the bar exam.
