Kenechukwu Onubogu, a Nigerian student with exceptional academic achievements, secured a $293,000 full scholarship to study Mathematical Economics at Rice University, Texas.


A talented Nigerian student, Kenechukwu Onubogu, has been awarded a full scholarship valued at $293,708 to pursue a degree in Mathematical Economics at Rice University in Texas, USA.
Kenechukwu, a 2019 graduate of Grundtvig International Secondary School, earned this prestigious award due to her outstanding Scholastic Aptitude Test (SAT) score, which placed her in the top 1% of test-takers worldwide.
Her academic achievements secured her an annual scholarship of $73,427 (around ₦35.2 million). In recognition of her potential and accomplishments, she also received Rice University’s Trustee Distinguished Scholarship, an honor given to students who demonstrate exceptional leadership and academic distinction.
Kenechukwu’s excellence in academics has been evident throughout her education. In 2019, she scored an impressive 321 out of 400 on Nigeria’s Joint Admissions and Matriculation Board (JAMB) Examination.
Additionally, she placed second in the national Interswitch SPAK competition, a contest aimed at promoting STEM education among Nigerian youth.
