A woman and four accomplices were arrested in Ondo State for allegedly attacking a Vice Principal who caught her son cheating during an exam, prompting condemnation from education authorities and renewed calls for exam integrity and school safety.

The Ondo State Police Command has arrested Dorcas Asije, the mother of a WASSCE candidate, along with four others, for allegedly orchestrating an attack on a school official who caught her son cheating during an exam.
The incident occurred at Complete Child Development College in the Aule area of Akure North. The school’s Vice Principal, Mr. Rotifa, had reportedly confiscated the student’s phone during the examination. In response, Asije allegedly hired thugs who assaulted the Vice Principal for taking disciplinary action against her son.
Police spokesperson Olayinka Ayanlade confirmed that the suspects were arrested by a tactical team on the orders of Commissioner Wilfred Afolabi. The case has since been transferred to the State Criminal Investigation Department (SCID) for further investigation and prosecution.
The Ondo State Ministry of Education strongly condemned the incident. Speaking on behalf of the ministry, Director Olaoluwa Meshack emphasized the state’s zero-tolerance policy toward exam malpractice and school violence, stating, “We are committed to preserving the credibility of our education system. Any attempts to disrupt the process will be met with firm legal action.”
The case has renewed national concern about academic dishonesty and parental interference in school discipline. State education officials plan to bolster awareness campaigns and tighten security in schools during national exams to prevent further occurrences.
