Comrade Ameh Baba, Chairman of the Nigeria Union of Teachers (NUT), Kubwa chapter, has accused area council chairmen of toying with the future of innocent children. He also accused the council chairmen of not keeping their responsibility on basic education.

Strike is a household word in Nigeria, especially in the education sector. Aside from ASUU who are currently warning on an imminent strike, Abuja Primary school teachers were on strike for two weeks recently.
The teachers had embarked on strike due to failure to pay their promotion arrears. They have however suspended the strike after two weeks. It was suspended following the interventions of the Senator representing FCT Philip Adudua, and the FCT Minister, Muhammad Bello.
Speaking with Daily Trust, shortly after the strike was suspended, Ameh accused the council chairmen of not keeping their responsibility on basic education.
“Can you imagine that, as the strike was ongoing three of travelled to Dubai last week and up till now they are there, possibly for Christmas shopping,” Ameh said.
He however did not disclose the identities of the chairmen who had gone abroad.
He added that the Union would request for the current term to be extended in order to enable teachers to cover some of the areas lost as a result of the strike.
The strike has affected the calendar as if not for the strike, the schools would have started their examination on December 5, but as it would be now, they will start a little later than that if the extension is made.
