Anambra Commissioner Suspends Principal Over Poor Feeding in School

The Akwa Ibom State Commissioner for Education suspended the principal of Presbyterian Senior Science College over poor feeding practices for boarding students, launching a statewide investigation into the quality of facilities in public schools.

The Akwa Ibom State Commissioner for Education, Mrs. Idongesit Etiebet, has suspended Dr. Nse Sunday Umoh, Principal of Presbyterian Senior Science College, Ididep, Ibiono Ibom Local Government Area, over allegations of poor feeding practices for boarding students.

The decision followed the circulation of a disturbing video on social media showing students being served inadequate and unappealing meals. In response, the commissioner made an unannounced visit to the school and subsequently initiated a thorough investigation into the state of boarding facilities in the institution and 25 other boarding schools across the state.

According to Mrs. Etiebet, the review will assess hostels, dining areas, recreation spaces, menus, kitchens, and sanitation facilities. This process will be jointly supervised by the Permanent Secretaries of the Ministry of Education and the State Secondary Education Board.

She emphasized that while the state’s free education policy covers tuition fees only, the Umo Eno-led administration prioritizes the welfare and dignity of all students, particularly those in public schools.

“We appeal to parents, who are already relieved of tuition fees, to take on basic responsibilities to support their children in public secondary schools,” she said.

The commissioner assured the public that the Ministry of Education remains committed to ensuring public schools meet acceptable standards that uphold the well-being of students and staff. She urged patience as investigations continue and reaffirmed the governor’s dedication to education as part of his ARISE Agenda.
