Obafemi Awolowo University (OAU) confirmed that the driver who killed final-year student Esu Rita Ema has been handed over to the police for prosecution, with the Vice-Chancellor expressing deep condolences to her family.


The management of Obafemi Awolowo University (OAU), Ile-Ife, has confirmed that the driver responsible for the death of final-year student Esu Rita Ema has been handed over to the police for prosecution.
In a statement released by the university’s spokesperson, Olarewaju Abiodun, it was revealed that Esu, a student in the Department of Foreign Languages, was struck by a Lexus car driven by Lasisi Sodiq Segun while attempting to cross the Ife-Ibadan expressway to submit her project on Thursday afternoon.
The Federal Road Safety Corps (FRSC) recovered Esu’s body, which was then taken to the Obafemi Awolowo University Teaching Hospital Complex (OAUTHC) mortuary. The driver was subsequently arrested by the police for further investigation.
The Vice-Chancellor, Professor Adebayo Simeon Bamire, expressed his deep condolences to Esu’s family, emphasizing the profound sadness of losing such a promising young adult and urged them to find comfort in God during this difficult time.
