Obafemi Awolowo University mourns the tragic death of final-year student Esu Ema, who was killed by a speeding driver near the campus while on her way to submit her final year project.


Obafemi Awolowo University (OAU), Ile-Ife, Osun State, is mourning the loss of Esu Ema, a final-year student from the Department of Foreign Languages, who was tragically killed by a speeding driver near the university campus.
The incident occurred when Ema, who was on her way to submit her final year project, was struck by a Lexus vehicle driven by Lasisi Sodiq while crossing the Ife-Ibadan Road near the campus gate.
The university’s Public Relations Officer, Abiodun Olarewaju, confirmed that the Federal Road Safety Corps recovered Ema’s body, which was later deposited at the Obafemi Awolowo University Teaching Hospital Complex. The driver has been arrested for further investigation.
OAU Vice-Chancellor, Prof. Simeon Bamire, expressed his deep condolences to Ema’s family, acknowledging the immense loss of such a promising young student. He urged everyone affected to find solace in their faith, praying for the strength to endure this heartbreaking loss.
