Flying Officer David Sangokoya of the Nigerian Air Force was awarded the International Sword of Honour for 2023 at the Royal Air Force College Cranwell in the UK. He was recognized as the Best International Cadet of the Year after completing the Modularised Initial Officers’ Training Course. The award, presented by Prince William on behalf of King Charles III, is given annually to the top international cadet among those completing the college’s courses. Air Marshal Hasan Abubakar praised Sangokoya’s dedication and commitment, noting that his achievement brings honor to both the Nigerian Air Force and the country.


Flying Officer David Sangokoya of the Nigerian Air Force (NAF) has been awarded the prestigious International Sword of Honour for 2023 at the Royal Air Force College Cranwell (RAFCC) in the United Kingdom.
The announcement was made on Friday via a statement shared by the Nigerian Air Force on Facebook, titled “NAF Officer Awarded 2023 International Sword of Honour at RAF College Cranwell UK.”
Flying Officer Sangokoya participated in the Modularised Initial Officers’ Training (MIOT) Course 22 from March to September 2023 and was recognized as the Best International Cadet of the Year.


The International Sword of Honour is an annual award presented to the top international cadet among those who complete the RAFCC’s courses, with up to eight classes graduating each year.
Sangokoya received the Sword of Honour from His Royal Highness, Prince William, on behalf of King Charles III, during the Royal Graduation ceremony held on September 12, 2024.
Chief of the Air Staff, Air Marshal Hasan Abubakar, commended Flying Officer Sangokoya on his achievement, highlighting his dedication and perseverance.
“This prestigious award is a reflection of the officer’s focus and commitment during his training,” said Abubakar, adding that the NAF is proud of this accomplishment, which brings honour to both the Air Force and Nigeria.
Air Marshal Abubakar also recognized the support of Sangokoya’s family, acknowledging their vital role in his success.
