The National Universities Commission (NUC) has approved 49 out of 51 courses presented to it by the Lagos State University (LASU) for accreditation.


In a statement to release on Monday, Ademola Adekoya, the spokesperson of LASU, said 96 percent of the programmes put up before the commission earned full or interim accreditation.
Adekoya said, of the 51 courses assessed, 49 were successful in the accreditation exercise.
The spokesperson also quoted Olanrewaju Olanrewaju-John, the head of LASU’s directorate of academic Planning, as saying that “this marked the best ever performance by a vice-chancellor in their first year in office.”
“LASU’s flagship programme, Faculty of Law, received back-to-back full accreditation for all its programmes, the first-ever in the university,” the statement read.

“The department of Nursing received full accreditation for the first time ever. All programmes submitted to the College of Medicine received full accreditation for the first time.
“Department of Pharmacology received full accreditation for its very first accreditation programme ever. All postgraduate programmes in the postgraduate school presented received full accreditation.
“All programmes in the Faculty of Management Sciences put up for assessment were accredited. The African Centre of Excellence for STEM Education received full accreditation, amongst others.
Ibiyemi Olatunji-Bello, the VC of LASU, said the achievement will push the university in future university rankings.
She added that her administration would ensure 100 percent of programmes are accredited in the next exercise.
