Ondo State Sanctions Two Principals for Illegal Student Levies

The Ondo State Government has sanctioned two secondary school principals for extorting students through unauthorized levies, reinforcing its ban on illegal charges in public schools ahead of the 2025/2026 academic session.

The Ondo State Government has disciplined two public secondary school principals over allegations of extorting students by collecting unauthorized levies.

Although the names of the principals were not made public, they were accused of demanding payments and items not approved by the Ministry of Education, in clear violation of state directives.

Professor Igbekele Ajibefun, the Commissioner for Education, Science, and Technology, disclosed the sanctions during a school inspection tour in Akure. He emphasized that the government has zero tolerance for exploitation within public schools.

“Two principals have already been sanctioned in the last few days. They were caught collecting illegal money from students even before the term resumed,” Ajibefun stated.

According to him, the principals were summoned, presented with evidence, and admitted to the misconduct. They have been officially queried, and further disciplinary actions are in progress.

Ajibefun warned that any school administrator found undermining efforts to provide free and quality education would face strict consequences. He assured parents that the government remains fully committed to eliminating hidden charges in the public school system.

This development follows the state’s recent ban on illegal levies ahead of the 2025/2026 academic session, prompted by ongoing complaints from parents and education stakeholders seeking reform in the sector.
