Olabisi Onabanjo University (OOU) has introduced a groundbreaking initiative to issue graduating students their certificates and transcripts during its 34th convocation, alongside celebrating academic achievements, including 115 First Class graduates and recognition in Artificial Intelligence and research excellence.


In a groundbreaking move, Olabisi Onabanjo University (OOU), Ago-Iwoye, Ogun State, has announced that graduating students will now receive their degree certificates and transcripts during the convocation ceremony. This initiative begins with the university’s 34th convocation, scheduled to conclude on Friday, January 31, 2025.
The Vice-Chancellor, Professor Ayodeji Agboola, disclosed this during a press briefing on Thursday. He confirmed that all certificates had been signed and would be issued alongside transcripts and commemorative plaques during the event.
A total of 6,209 undergraduates will graduate for the 2023/24 academic session, comprising 5,793 regular and 416 part-time students. Additionally, 741 postgraduate students will be conferred with diplomas and degrees, including 571 PGD/Masters and 170 PhDs.
Among the graduating undergraduates, 115 students will receive First Class honours, marking a 16.16% increase from the 99 First Class graduates in the previous session. Other classifications include 1,845 in Second Class (Upper Division), 3,044 in Second Class (Lower Division), 688 in Third Class, 35 with a Pass grade, and 66 unclassified medical graduates.
The convocation’s highlight will be a lecture titled “TETFund and Educational Development in Nigeria: The History, the Treasures, and the Future,” delivered by the Executive Secretary of the Tertiary Education Trust Fund, Arch Sunny Echono, on Friday, January 31.
Professor Agboola also celebrated OOU’s achievements in Artificial Intelligence (AI), which earned the university the title of “AI School of the Year” at the 2024 Data Science Nigeria (DSN) annual boot camp, along with a $1,000 book prize. Additionally, two lecturers received the inaugural Google Academic Research Awards for 2024, securing a $60,000 research grant.
The Overall Best Graduating Student, Aisha Aanuoluwapo Dauda from the Department of Economics, achieved a stellar Cumulative Grade Point Average (CGPA) of 4.87.
This innovative approach underscores OOU’s commitment to academic excellence and student success.
