A Nigerian man, Mubaraq Olawale Olaniyi, whose father sells wood to fund his education celebrates after graduating with an impressive CGPA from Lagos State University (LASU).

Mubaraq Olawale Olaniyi, a remarkable Nigerian man whose father sells wood to fund his education, has graduated from Lagos State University (LASU) as the top student, achieving an outstanding CGPA of 4.98 out of 5.00.
Olawale earned his bachelor’s degree in Accounting Education, making him the valedictorian for the 2022/2023 academic session. Despite his modest upbringing and the loss of his mother, he remained dedicated and determined to excel academically.
In his valedictory speech, Olawale addressed misconceptions about education courses and emphasized his commitment to his chosen field. “It is with great humility that I address you today as the son of a wood seller father and a late mother, who has defied expectations to emerge from a faculty wrongly adjudged as an asylum for students with low intellectual quotient and for students gifted with courses different from their desires,” he said.
Proudly stating his achievements, Olawale declared, “I am neither a low IQ student nor given a course different from my desire. I chose Accounting Education.”
Olawale attributed his success to the inspiration he drew from previous top-performing students at LASU and expressed gratitude for completing his academic journey despite numerous challenges. He noted that throughout his four years, he scored only two Bs, achieving a 5.0 GPA in six out of eight semesters while also working as a fashion designer.
He credited his valedictorian status to determination, hard work, consistency, good associations, mentorship, and prayers. Olawale actively participated in various activities, joined impact-focused organizations, volunteered, and held leadership roles.
Expressing his gratitude, he thanked his late mother, his father for taking on dual parental roles, and his siblings for their unwavering support. He also acknowledged the university administration for fostering an environment of academic excellence and personal growth.
In his advice to fellow graduates, Olawale emphasized that dreams require action, not just thought. He encouraged his peers to remember that obstacles and challenges cannot stop them and urged them to strive for excellence through hard work.
