Oyo Bans Teachers from Holding Meetings During School Hours

The Oyo State Government has banned head teachers and teachers from holding meetings during school hours, warning of strict consequences for violators, while also committing to using technology to enhance education through initiatives like the BESDA Attendance Monitoring Information System (BAMIS).

The Oyo State Government on Tuesday banned all meetings by head teachers and teachers during school hours, whether on or off school premises, warning that violators will face serious consequences.

This directive was issued by Nureni Adeniran, Chairman of the Oyo State Universal Basic Education Board, while monitoring school resumption in Ibadan, the state capital. He stated, “This is a warning to all head teachers and teachers to stop holding meetings during school hours. Any head teacher found doing so will be strictly dealt with.”

Adeniran called on unions and associations in the basic education sector to comply with this policy as the new school session begins. He also instructed Education Secretaries to communicate the new rule to all head teachers under their respective Local Government Universal Basic Education Authorities.

In a separate announcement, Adeniran emphasized the board’s dedication to utilizing technology to improve education in the state. He made this remark during a three-day capacity-building workshop on the use of the BESDA Attendance Monitoring Information System (BAMIS).

“We have gathered you here to enhance your skills in using the BAMID APP,” Adeniran said, commending the UBEC for introducing the BAMIS APP to improve performance in areas such as punctuality, attendance, and monitoring of learning activities.

He also noted that the board has invested significant time and resources into the program, given its critical role in the successful delivery of basic education, which is central to the board’s mandate.
