Oyo Government Issues Strict Warning Against Exam Malpractice During NECO

The Oyo State Government has warned students and educators against exam malpractice during the ongoing NECO exams, emphasizing a zero-tolerance policy, promoting academic integrity, and conducting school inspections to ensure compliance.

The Oyo State Government has issued a firm warning to students participating in the ongoing National Examination Council (NECO) exams, urging them to steer clear of any form of examination malpractice.

This announcement was made by the Chairperson of the Oyo State Teaching Service Commission, Mrs. Oladipo Olubukola, during a two-day inspection tour across secondary schools in the state. The visit, conducted on Wednesday and Thursday, was aimed at monitoring adherence to examination guidelines and promoting transparency.

Olubukola emphasized the importance of integrity in the education system, urging both students and educators to resist the temptation of taking shortcuts.

“Students must remain focused on their studies. Academic honesty is essential for long-term success and gaining admission into their chosen universities,” she stated.

She added that the government, under Governor Seyi Makinde, maintains a zero-tolerance policy toward any form of cheating or misconduct during exams.

The Commission, Olubukola said, is working in partnership with relevant education stakeholders to ensure proper conduct during the examination period. She warned that anyone found guilty of malpractice—students or staff—will face disciplinary action.

During the monitoring tour, the following schools were among those visited:

  • Ibadan Grammar School
  • St. Anne’s School
  • Olubi Memorial Grammar School
  • Saint Luke’s College

At Ibadan Grammar School, Principal Mr. Ogunleye Biodun expressed appreciation to the state government for prioritising education and offering consistent support to public schools.

The NECO exams are currently underway nationwide, with various state education authorities conducting similar oversight visits to ensure fair conduct and adherence to protocol.
