Oyo State Government has issued a final warning to 202 primary school teachers who have failed to return to their original postings, threatening to suspend their salaries if they continue to stay away.

Chairman of the Oyo State Universal Basic Education Board (OYOSUBEB), Dr. Nureni Adeniran, delivered the directive during a meeting with education secretaries from the 33 Local Government Universal Basic Education Authorities (LGUBEAs) in Ibadan.
In October 2022, approximately 2,000 primary school teachers were temporarily transferred to the Post-Primary Schools Teaching Service Commission (TESCOM) under the previous administration. While most of them were successfully integrated, 202 teachers were left out due to not meeting the transfer requirements or because of a lack of available positions.
Despite this, the excluded teachers neither returned to their original postings under the LGUBEAs nor reported back to OYOSUBEB—yet they have continued receiving salaries from the current administration.
“These teachers are technically ‘floating’ and are being paid without rendering service. This is unsustainable and unacceptable,” said Adeniran.
He stressed that the teachers’ appointments remain unconfirmed as long as they refuse to return to their assigned locations and warned that continued defiance would be treated as gross misconduct.
“All affected teachers must report back to their LGUBEAs immediately,” he ordered.
Adeniran also instructed the education secretaries to compile the names and locations of all 202 affected teachers without delay.
New School Development Initiative Launched
Adeniran further announced the rollout of the School-Based Management Committee – School Improvement Programme (SBMC-SIP), a partnership with the Universal Basic Education Commission (UBEC). The initiative aims to strengthen community involvement in school development by providing direct funds to SBMCs for:
- Infrastructure improvements
- Learning materials
- Equipment upgrades
“This initiative will improve access to education, enhance learning quality, and promote equity in basic education,” Adeniran said.
He urged education secretaries to closely monitor the implementation of SBMC-SIP projects within their local jurisdictions.
