PLASU Senate Sanctions 76 Students Over Examination Malpractice

The Senate of Plateau State University sanctioned 76 students for examination malpractice with penalties ranging from rustication to expulsion while reaffirming its commitment to academic integrity.

The Senate of Plateau State University has approved disciplinary actions against 76 students found guilty of examination malpractice during the 2024/2025 academic session.

The decision was reached during the university’s 102nd regular Senate meeting, where members reviewed and adopted recommendations from the Examination Misconduct Committee. The offences committed by the affected students included bringing unauthorized materials and mobile phones into examination halls, impersonation, and writing answers on parts of their bodies.

Based on the severity of the offences, the university imposed various penalties such as rustication for one academic session, compulsory carryover of affected courses, and outright expulsion for serious violations, in line with the institution’s rules. The meeting was presided over by the Deputy Vice Chancellor (Academic), Moses Galadima, representing the Vice Chancellor, Shadrach Best.

The university management reaffirmed its strict stance against examination malpractice, emphasizing its commitment to maintaining academic integrity, discipline, and strong moral standards. The Vice Chancellor also praised the committee for conducting a thorough and fair investigation.

In addition to disciplinary matters, the Senate approved final-year undergraduate and postgraduate results for the session and confirmed that lectures for the new semester had already resumed across departments. Updates were also presented on ongoing digital improvements aimed at making student registration easier and more efficient.
