Police Confirm Arrest of Lagos Teacher for Slapping 3-Year-Old Pupil in Viral Video

Stella Nwadigo, a Lagos teacher, was arrested after a viral video showed her repeatedly slapping a 3-year-old pupil, sparking public outrage and calls for stricter child protection measures in schools.

Stella Nwadigo, a teacher at Christ-Mitots School in Ikorodu, Lagos, has been arrested after a viral video showed her physically abusing a 3-year-old pupil, Abayomi Michael.

The disturbing footage, which surfaced online, captured Nwadigo repeatedly slapping the young child during a lesson, sparking widespread outrage on social media and raising concerns about child safety in schools.

CSP Benjamin Hundeyin, the spokesman for the Lagos State Police Command, confirmed the arrest in a statement on his X (formerly Twitter) page. He assured the public that Nwadigo is in police custody and that further actions are being taken.

In his tweet, Hundeyin wrote:

“She is currently in our custody for further necessary actions.”

The incident has reignited discussions about child protection and the role of educators in ensuring a safe learning environment. Nigerians took to social media to express their opinions:

• @MAlice112: “She deserves jail time… that was cruel on a child that could barely speak. Let this be a lesson to others.”

• @Gracepikin001: “Jail her, Ben. This one deserves no mercy.”

• @AGOHACONE: “She should be corrected and charged to court; hopefully, she has learned her lesson.”

• @Amorah_Geo: “Thank VDM for drawing attention to this case.”

The viral video has highlighted the urgent need for stricter oversight in schools to prevent child abuse and ensure educators uphold their responsibility to protect children. The public continues to call for justice and measures to deter such incidents in the future.
