Police Investigate Viral Video of Alleged Excel College Students Smoking and Drinking

Police are investigating a viral video allegedly showing Excel College students smoking and drinking, prompting concerns over student behavior and institutional oversight.

The Lagos State Police Command has launched an investigation into a viral video allegedly showing students of Excel College, Ejigbo, engaging in smoking, drinking, and dancing within the school’s boys’ hostel.

Though the incident reportedly occurred in April 2025, the footage only surfaced online recently, sparking widespread public outrage and condemnation.

In response, the Lagos State Commissioner of Police, CP Olohundare Jimoh, directed the State Criminal Investigation Department (SCID), Panti, to take over the case from the Ejigbo Police Division, which had begun preliminary inquiries.

The school’s principal, who also serves as the proprietor, was invited for questioning. He informed investigators that the students featured in the video had already graduated. Nonetheless, the school management has pledged full cooperation with the police to uncover the full details behind the footage.

“The Command will ensure a thorough investigation, and the findings will be made public,” stated SP Abimbola Adebisi, the Police Public Relations Officer.

The police have urged school authorities, parents, and guardians to intensify monitoring of students and wards, emphasizing the importance of promoting discipline, moral values, and responsible conduct within academic institutions.

The Command reiterated its commitment to maintaining peace, law, and order across Lagos State.
