Protesters in Abuja have called for the suspension of FUOYE Vice-Chancellor Professor Abayomi Fasina to allow for an independent investigation into allegations of sexual harassment against him.

A coalition of protesters gathered at the Federal Ministry of Education in Abuja on Friday, demanding the immediate suspension of Professor Abayomi Fasina, Vice-Chancellor of the Federal University, Oye-Ekiti (FUOYE), to allow for an impartial investigation into allegations of sexual harassment.
The demonstrators, carrying placards with messages like “Ekiti Deserves Better” and “Protect Our Women,” argued that Fasina should step aside pending the outcome of the probe. The demand stems from a leaked voice recording that allegedly implicates the Vice-Chancellor in a case involving a married subordinate at the university.
Victor Adetola, spokesperson for the Coalition of Civil Society Organisations Against Corruption, addressed journalists after submitting a formal petition to Minister of Education, Tunji Alausa. He emphasized that allowing Fasina to remain in office during the investigation could compromise its credibility.
“There’s been a disciplinary investigation ongoing for over six months, repeatedly extended without resolution. This delay points to deeper issues, including corruption and administrative failure,” Adetola said.
He insisted that only through the VC’s suspension can a transparent and independent inquiry be ensured, especially given the seriousness of the sexual harassment claims.
