Rivers State University in Nkpolu-Oroworukwo, Port Harcourt, has suspended four students who are officials of the campus security outfit, Man ‘O’ War, for one academic session due to their involvement in the brutalization of their colleague, Victor Tobins.
According to a statement from the university’s acting Registrar, Mrs. I. B. S. Harry, the suspended students—Monsi Baridukaka Nwaaelibabari, Victor Chibuike Daniel, Ezems Ikechukwu Goodluck, and Wilson Jacob Ree-Ugani—violated university regulations. The incident on June 12 resulted in serious injuries to Tobins, affecting his right eye and other body parts.
The university emphasized the importance of peaceful coexistence and adherence to campus rules. The administration reiterated its zero-tolerance policy towards violence.
The brutality incident led to a protest on June 13, disrupting a meeting between the university management, the Students Union Government, and the Man ‘O’ War. Police and the Vice-Chancellor intervened, assuring students that swift action would be taken.
The suspension serves as a clear message from the university that such behavior will not be tolerated.
