The NYSC rejected some HND graduates and screened them out from participating in the mandatory one year program for failing to present an Industrial Training (IT) certification for orientation camp registration, inline with it’s newly implemented policy for HND graduates.

As the National Youth Service Corps (NYSC) orientation camps commenced nationwide yesterday, Higher National Diploma (HND) graduates from polytechnics without an Industrial Training (IT) certification were turned away.
The NYSC recently implemented a policy requiring IT certification for HND graduates participating in the national service, leading to the suspension of the screening process for some.
Recall that ALLSCHOOL reported that the NYSC mandated HND graduates to provide proof of completing their one-year mandatory IT before being allowed to register at their assigned camps.
This new rule requires polytechnic and monotechnic graduates mobilized for Batch B Stream II to present evidence of completing their mandatory one-year IT to participate in the camp activities.
According to LEADERSHIP, upon paying a visit to the NYSC Orientation Camp in Kubwa, Abuja, it was observed that registration was progressing smoothly for those who met all the necessary requirements.
However, some corps members who were turned away due to missing IT certification expressed frustration. They noted that despite completing their studies, they were barred from participating in the service program because of documentation issues.
One of the affected individuals, who wished to remain anonymous, criticized the timing of the new requirement, highlighting that other graduates were already serving without facing similar obstacles.
“They are asking for the IT certificate; once you present it along with other documents, they allow you to proceed with registration. This new requirement has caused frustration among some of us,” she said.
A nursing mother, Mrs. Hauwa Collins, who arrived early in the morning, shared that the process was straightforward as long as all documents were in order.
“I got to the camp before 10 a.m. and was asked to present my IT certificate, age declaration, and other documents. After verification, they promptly issued my kits, and I am nearly done with registration.
“But some of our colleagues are disappointed. I met a woman from Kaduna who was upset after being screened out,” she added.
