The Senator Obong Bassey Albert (OBA) Undergraduate Scholarship Successful Candidates has been Released online. A total of 189 candidates were selected

The Allschool team is pleased to inform candidates that participated in the Senator Bassey Albert Scholarship qualifying examination that the board of the scholarship has published the names of successful candidates for the second phase of the Scholarship Scheme.
A total of 189 undergraduates have emerged as beneficiaries for the second phase of our scholarship scheme, following a qualifying examination on Saturday 11th of May, 2019.
The examination which commenced by 8am with screening of shortlisted candidates, had 1,100 candidates from various institutions of higher learning drawn across the 31 Local Government Areas of the State.
Successful candidates were selected based on the following criteria:
1. MERIT CRITERION:
Best 20 candidates, irrespective of their Local Government of origin were first selected.
2. TOTAL NUMBER OF REGISTERED APPLICANTS PER LOCAL GOVERNMENT OF ORIGIN:
Based on the publication earlier made (on this page) on the 9th of April, 2019, some Local Government Areas had more registered candidates than others. For instance, Ibiono Ibom and Uyo had 263 and 169 registered candidates respectively, as against Etim Ekpo and Oron which had 17 and 7 candidates respectively.
Therefore, to ensure an even spread, Local Governments with more than 100 candidates, had only 10% selected, while 20% were selected in Local Government Areas with less than 100 candidates.
To this end, candidates selected from the criterion were 10% or 20% of the total registered candidates from the respective Local Government Areas (as applicable), who performed best after the merit list criterion.
3. DISABILITY:
All physically challenged candidates who applied for the scheme, irrespective of their Local Government of origin were exempted from the examination and automatically shortlisted as beneficiaries. This is in line with our policy to encourage persons living with disabilities to contribute positively towards development of the society.
In summary, 20 of the beneficiaries were selected based on the first criterion, 165 based on the second criterion, while 4 physically challenged persons were selected based on the third criterion.
Other candidates can also verify their scores on the website from Tuesday 14th May, 2019.
While we congratulate all successful candidates, we urge them to be good ambassadors of the scheme and the state at large.
