Shun drug abuse, cultism – UNIOSUN warns 3,671 fresh students

The management of Osun State University, on Thursday, revealed that it has admitted 3,671 out of the 4,757 candidates who sought admission in the institution for the 2020/2021 academic session.

The Vice-Chancellor of the institution, Professor Labode Popoola, made this known in his speech during the 14th matriculation ceremony held at Olagunsoye Oyinlola Auditorium, Main Campus, Osogbo.

Prof Popoola implored the students to stay away completely from any act of drug abuse, cultism and the likes, saying that the University has zero tolerance to these vices.

“If you are caught, the university will not desist to take the appropriate sanction, which may include summary dismissal,” he warned.

In his speech, the VC said that when graduating, the students stand the chance of graduating with two certificates from this university; Entrepreneurial studies and the degree.

“We have a centre for Entrepreneurial studies that engages in the training of students on their chosen vocations so that they can be skilled within the years of their course of study and this is complemented with a certificate of competence in the vocation to enable the students to be self-reliant after graduation.

“After graduation, we take it as our responsibility to support these students that are ready to be self-reliant with the sum of two hundred thousand naira as start-up fund which can be repaid in installments at an interest rate of 1%.” the VC stated.
