Six Students Die in Boat Accident After Junior WAEC Exam in Kaduna

Six students tragically drowned in the Mbang river in Ribang village, Kauru Local Government Area, Kaduna State, while returning from a Junior WAEC exam on Tuesday, Three bodies found, while three others still missing.

Six students tragically drowned in the Mbang river in Ribang village, Kauru Local Government Area, Kaduna State, while returning from a Junior WAEC exam around 5:30 pm on Tuesday.

The victims, all students of Government Secondary School Fadan Chawai, were identified as Manasseh Monday (16), Musa John (16), Pius David (15), Monday Ayuba (16), David Danlami (19), and Yahuza Audu (16).

Simon Ishaku, the National Public Relations Officer of Ribang Development Association, confirmed the incident on Wednesday, stating that three bodies had been recovered and buried, while three students remain missing.

Ishaku explained that the Mbang river has long been a hazard for the community, which must travel approximately 8 kilometers to access schools or medical facilities. He appealed to the Federal Government, Governor Uba Sani, Senator Sunday Katung, and local House of Representatives members for urgent assistance in building a school, hospital, access road, and bridge to aid the community.

ASP Mansir Hassan, the Kaduna State Police Public Relations Officer, has not yet issued an official statement regarding the incident.
