The Ghana Education Service (GES) has been petitioned to investigate an alleged assault and indefinite suspension of a third-year student at Labone Senior High School.
The incident reportedly occurred on June 18, 2024, when the housemaster, Eric Agyemang, allegedly slapped the student during a dispute over a phone. The student had been accused of using the phone and refusing to surrender it to the housemaster.
According to a letter sent to GES on June 21, 2024, the student’s family claimed the school’s headteacher supported the housemaster’s actions. The letter also noted that the student has been barred from attending classes despite denying the accusations.
The family expressed significant distress over the situation, citing the increased burden of their ward having to commute from Kasoa to Labone for school. They emphasized the need for psychological support for the student, especially with the West African Senior School Certificate Examination (WASSCE) approaching.
The family is calling for a fair hearing and resolution to the matter, stressing their concern over the alleged mistreatment and the conduct of school authorities, particularly Mr. AgAgyema.
