Students from Three Oyo Schools Clash in Violent Sword Fight in Ibadan

Students from three secondary schools in Ibadan, Oyo State, shocked residents after engaging in a violent sword fight that spilled into the streets, sparking panic and widespread condemnation online.

Panic spread across parts of Ibadan, Oyo State, after students from three secondary schools engaged in a violent sword fight that shocked residents and sparked outrage online.

Eyewitnesses said the confrontation began as a small argument between rival students but quickly spiraled out of control when weapons were drawn. The teenagers, dressed in their school uniforms, were seen wielding machetes, sticks, and even swords as they charged at one another in broad daylight.

The chaotic scene sent residents and traders running for safety as the fight spilled into nearby streets. Several people could be heard screaming in fear in the background of the viral videos, with bystanders begging the warring students to stop.

According to locals, the incident is just one of several recent clashes among secondary school students in Ibadan. Many fear the growing violence is a sign of deepening youth involvement in street gangs and cult activities. Some also blamed political influences, claiming that certain groups deliberately recruit teenagers into violent factions that later evolve into political thugs.

A concerned resident wrote on social media,

“What we’re seeing now is the result of neglect. These boys grow up idolizing violence because it gives them a sense of power. If we don’t act fast, they’ll become the next generation of street warlords.”

Others compared the current trend to the city’s past, noting that student rivalries have long existed in Ibadan but were rarely this dangerous. In earlier years, fights often ended in verbal confrontations or fistfights — not armed combat in the open streets.

The disturbing footage has since drawn widespread condemnation online, with many calling on the Oyo State Government and school authorities to take swift action to curb the rising wave of student violence.
