63-Year-Old Mother of Seven Returns to High School to Learn Reading and Writing, Achieving Her Dream

At 63, Rita Offin from Ghana courageously returned to school to learn reading and writing, fulfilling her lifelong dream despite facing challenges and ridicule, and is now enrolled at Christ The King Senior High School after previously passing her Basic Education Certificate Examination.

In an inspiring move, 63-year-old Rita Offin, a mother of seven from Ghana, has enrolled at Christ The King Senior High School (CKC) in Obuasi to further her education.

Rita’s motivation to return to school stemmed from the difficulties she faced in her trade due to her inability to read or write.

Despite facing ridicule, she embarked on her educational journey at the age of 57, starting in Class Four at Independence School in Brahabebome, Obuasi. By 2021, she successfully sat for the Basic Education Certificate Examination (BECE).

In an interview with Adom News, Rita expressed her excitement for this new chapter in her life. She reaffirmed that obtaining an education has always been her lifelong dream and highlighted her resolve to overcome any challenges or mockery she may face.

Rita shared her hopes for a long life and the strength to complete her educational journey. The assistant headmaster responsible for administration at CKC, James Kwaku Brefo, praised Rita for her bravery and determination, calling her a role model for all students.

James encouraged the students to draw inspiration from Rita’s example and to stay committed to their studies.
