Governor Babagana Zulum mourned the loss of two BOSU students in a tragic accident, pledged to cover medical expenses for the injured, and vowed to enforce a trailer ban in Maiduguri by expediting the completion of the city’s trailer park project.

Borno State Governor, Professor Babagana Umara Zulum, has expressed his condolences to the Borno State University (BOSU) community and the families of students affected by a tragic accident on the Maiduguri-Damaturu road.
The incident, which occurred Wednesday evening near the Njimtilo area, claimed the lives of two students and left 16 others critically injured. Eight of the injured students have since been discharged and are recovering.
“I extend my deepest sympathies to the families of the affected students, as well as the management, staff, and students of Borno State University,” Governor Zulum stated. “This tragic accident involving a students’ bus and a trailer is deeply saddening, especially as it happened while the students were returning after their examinations.”
In response to the tragedy, the governor has directed the Ministry of Works to expedite the completion of the Maiduguri Trailer Park project, which aims to reduce the risk of such accidents. He further announced plans to enforce a ban on trailers and heavy vehicles entering the city center once the project is completed.
“I have instructed the Ministry of Works to ensure the immediate completion of the trailer park. Once operational, trailers will be restricted from accessing the city center to prevent future accidents,” Zulum said. “The Borno State government is committed to taking decisive measures to avoid such tragic incidents in the future.”
Additionally, Governor Zulum pledged that the state government would cover all medical expenses for the injured students and assured their families of his personal support. He also promised to visit the victims in the hospital to express his sympathies.
The governor wished the injured students a speedy recovery and reaffirmed his administration’s commitment to improving road safety measures across the state.
