CURSORY : Unilag student whose father is a professor graduates school with a CGPA of 5.0/5.0 and overall best graduating student.
Akoka, David Oluwatomiwa Akanmu, the son of a professor at the University of Lagos, (UNILAG) has graduated with a first class and a perfect Cumulative Grade Point Average (CGPA) of 5.00/5.00 and as the overall best student in the 2022/2023 academic session.
This was disclosed by the vice chancellor of UNILAG, Professor Folasade Ogunsola at the pre-convocation briefing, as reported by Daily Sun

According to professor Ogunsola, At the 54th convocation cerebration of UNILAG; 340 students of the school got a first class 97 of the first-class graduates came from the Faculty of Management Sciences, 57 and 47 from the Faculty of Science, 57 students from the Faculty of Engineering, respectively.
The VC also said that 39 students had distinctions in different courses from the College of Medicine.
Furthermore, the vice chancellor stated that a total of 17,464 student would be graduating, with 10,578 receiving their first degree, and 6,886 receiving their post graduate degree.
She added that 155 of the graduants will be conferred with PhD, and 31 international students will receive their M.sc degrees.

As announced by the Vice chancellor, Olawunmi Ige with PhD in mathematics, faculty of science won an award for overall best PhD thesis and Issa Akanji Adedokun, with a PhD in Private and Property Law, won an award for the best PhD in the humanities.
The VC further disclosed the university’s business school would graduate its first set of students as an autonomous school.
Sixty-two students will graduate from the Business School and the overall best graduating student is Abiola Oluyemisi Itakpe with a CGPA of 4.84, who obtained the Master of Business Administration,” she said.
Prof Ogunsola also said the university would confer honorary doctorate degrees to three scholars, including Toyin Falola, Phyllis Kanki, and Attahiru Jega.
Of the three awardee, Falola is a chair of the University of Texas, Kanki is a professor of Immunology at the Harvard Chan School of Public Health in Boston, while Jega is a professor of Political Science and former Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) chairman.
According to her, by helping with scholarship and societal development in various fields, the awardees have been able to distinguish themselves.
The UNILAG VC said the convocation lecture entitled: “Decolonising African Higher Education for Transformational Development” would be delivered by Falola. Falola is also a professor of History at the University of Texas.
