Student’s JAMB Score Jumps from 153 to 361 After Resit Prompted by Technical Error

A Nigerian student, Nwadike Chukwubikem Chidiebere, raised his JAMB score from 153 to 361 after a resit triggered by widespread technical errors, sparking mixed reactions and renewed calls for reform in the examination system.

A Nigerian student, Nwadike Chukwubikem Chidiebere, has gone viral after dramatically improving his JAMB (Joint Admissions and Matriculation Board) Unified Tertiary Matriculation Examination (UTME) score from 153 to an outstanding 361 following a resit prompted by a scoring error.

Earlier in May, the JAMB board released the 2025 UTME results, revealing that over 1.5 million candidates had scored below 200. However, further review uncovered inconsistencies and technical errors that compromised the integrity of some results. In response, JAMB organized a resit for affected candidates.

Among them was Chidiebere, whose revised performance stunned many. Education advocate Alex Onyia shared the news on social media, celebrating the student’s improvement:

@winexviv: “From 153 a few weeks ago to 361. Is God not awesome?”

The incident has triggered mixed reactions online, with some praising the correction while others expressed concerns about unresolved issues:

  • @francis_ranco: “This is nice, but JAMB should sit 2025 out and let tertiary institutions handle admissions directly.”
  • @Kolintin12: “Some of us also had issues but didn’t get a reschedule. My exam had incomplete questions at 12 pm on Saturday, and nothing was done.”
  • @victoryonyeka: “I’ve been texting JAMB about my daughter’s result but haven’t received any reply.”
  • @YouthspireNG: “Thanks to Alex for his efforts. I remember scoring the same result multiple times years ago despite my best efforts. Something was definitely off.”
  • @Tobi_Godsent: “Happy some students were allowed to retake the exam, but many still face rescheduling issues. What’s being done to prevent such errors in the future?”

The story continues to fuel discussions around the reliability of JAMB’s assessment system and the need for broader educational reforms.
