The Academic Staff Union of Universities (ASUU) at Taraba State University has declared an indefinite strike, suspending academic activities and ongoing exams, due to unresolved grievances including unpaid salaries, unimplemented allowances, and lack of a governing council.
Academic activities at Taraba State University have been suspended as the institution’s chapter of the Academic Staff Union of Universities (ASUU) declared an indefinite strike, disrupting ongoing second–semester examinations.

The union’s chairperson, Garba Mbave, announced the decision following a congress meeting held on the university premises in Jalingo. He cited several unresolved grievances, including unpaid salaries, absence of a functional pension scheme, salary arrears from the 2022 nationwide ASUU strike, and the lack of a governing council for the university.
Other demands include the non-implementation of the national minimum wage, non-payment of Earned Academic Allowances, and the government’s failure to approve a 35% salary increase for professors with proportional adjustments for other academic staff.
Mbave stressed that despite multiple efforts to negotiate with the government, their welfare concerns remain neglected, leaving the union no choice but to strike. “It is not our intention to disrupt examinations or inconvenience students, but this action is necessary to demand justice for our members,” he stated.
