A part-time student of University of Benin was reportedly killed after an attack near the school’s entrance, sparking fear and renewed security concerns among students and residents.


A part-time student of University of Benin, popularly known as UNIBEN, has reportedly lost his life after being attacked near the school’s main entrance in Benin City, Edo State. The tragic incident has thrown students and residents into mourning as concerns over insecurity around the campus continue to grow.
According to reports, the victim was allegedly assaulted by unknown individuals close to the university gate while trying to make his way through the area. Witnesses said the attack caused panic among students and passersby, with many rushing to the scene in an attempt to help.
The student was said to have sustained severe injuries during the incident and was later confirmed dead. His identity had not been officially released at the time the report surfaced, but news of the tragedy quickly spread across the campus community and social media platforms.
Students of the institution expressed sadness and frustration over the development, calling on security agencies and school authorities to improve safety measures around the university environment. Some students also described the area around the campus entrance as unsafe, especially during late hours.
Residents and members of the university community have urged the police to thoroughly investigate the matter and ensure those responsible are arrested and prosecuted. The incident has also renewed conversations about the increasing cases of violence and attacks around tertiary institutions in Nigeria.
Meanwhile, authorities are yet to issue a detailed official statement regarding the circumstances surrounding the killing, while investigations into the unfortunate incident are reportedly ongoing.
