UNILAG has dismissed social media claims of technical faults during its 2025/2026 Post-UTME, stating that all malpractice notices were based on verified rule violations detected through strict monitoring systems.
The University of Lagos (UNILAG) has rejected reports circulating on social media that the 2025/2026 Post‑UTME screening suffered from technical faults. According to a statement from the Head of its Communication Unit, Adejoke R. Alaga‑Ibraheem, the notices of examination malpractice given to certain applicants were due to clearly defined breaches of rules—not system errors.
UNILAG expressed concern over rumours and allegations shared via emails and social platforms following the screening held between September 1 and 4, 2025. It clarified that malpractice notices issued were not the result of any technical glitch. Rather, they stemmed from genuine violations of established procedures.
Security and integrity protocols, including video recording of the exercise, were used to monitor candidates. These systems, the university says, firmly revealed infractions. UNILAG emphasised that all flagged cases were detected through these robust checks.
Regarding transparency, UNILAG noted that raw video footage of particular incidents would not be released in order to protect data privacy. But anonymised stills may be shared to illustrate the nature of the infractions.
Prospective students and their families have been cautioned to ignore unofficial sources and rely only on communications issued through UNILAG’s formal channels. The statement also disclosed that 20,464 candidates took part in the fully online screening, intended to assess entry into its undergraduate programmes.
Following publication of malpractice notices, some candidates took to social media claiming they were unfairly penalised due to technical issues. Similar complaints reportedly emerged among applicants for Obafemi Awolowo University’s Post‑UTME screening during the same period.
