Three primary school pupils have emerged victorious in the 2024/2025 MoneyBee Competition, a nationwide financial literacy initiative organized by Junior Achievement Nigeria in collaboration with Prudence Foundation.
Akosile Opendoors from God’s Foundation School, Ondo State, claimed the top prize, while Abdulrahman Burhan of Sacson Nursery and Primary School, Lagos State, secured second place. Adedoyin Delight from M & N Model School, Akure, Ondo State, finished in third place.
The competition was structured into two phases: Cha-Ching, which introduced participants to core financial principles, and MoneyBee, where students put their knowledge to the test through an intensive online examination.
Engaging over 25,000 pupils from 20 states, the contest culminated in a hybrid Grand Finale, where eight finalists competed for the top honors.
Speaking at the event, Jennifer Okereke, Head of Branding & Communications-Project at Prudence Foundation, highlighted the importance of early financial education.
She stated, “Financial literacy is a vital life skill. Through this program, we have empowered young minds with the knowledge they need to make informed financial choices. By teaching earning, saving, spending, and donating, we are shaping a generation that understands financial responsibility.”
Program Officer Oluwatosin Oyetayo commended the participants for their dedication and intelligence, emphasizing that the competition showcased the financial acumen and critical thinking skills of young Nigerians.
“From over 25,000 participants across 20 states, our eight finalists displayed exceptional skills. This was more than just a competition—it was a celebration of learning, digital inclusion, and the bright future of financially literate young minds,” Oyetayo said.
Ugonna Achebe, Executive Director of Junior Achievement Nigeria, stressed the importance of financial literacy from an early age.
“The MoneyBee Competition ensures that young Nigerians build a strong foundation in financial decision-making. It is inspiring to see pupils demonstrate their knowledge and confidence at every stage of the contest,” Achebe remarked.
Achebe also expressed gratitude to Prudence Foundation, Prudential Zenith Life Insurance, Channels TV, volunteers, school owners, teachers, and all stakeholders who contributed to the success of the initiative.
“Together, we are fostering financial literacy and equipping young Nigerians for a financially responsible future,” he added.
