Ewura Adams Karim, a determined Ghanaian, overcame four years of scholarship rejections to win the Mandela Washington Fellowship in 2024, earning multiple degrees along the way and emphasizing resilience and perseverance as the keys to his success.


A remarkable African woman, Ewuradjoa Sharon, has successfully earned a Master’s degree from the prestigious Oxford University in the United Kingdom.
Sharon graduated with a Master of Science in Criminology from Oxford, an accomplishment she proudly shared on her LinkedIn. In her post, she reflected on her journey from Tema Community 5, Ghana, to studying at one of the world’s top universities.
Sharon revealed the challenges she faced along the way, including the struggles she encountered upon starting her studies. Despite putting in considerable effort, she initially found her grades disappointing, which led to feelings of depression. Additionally, she dealt with the personal challenge of gaining weight, which made her uncomfortable. However, with resilience and faith, Sharon overcame these obstacles and successfully completed her degree.
Expressing her gratitude, Sharon thanked her family, particularly her brother for his unwavering support and her sister, who stayed on the phone with her during late-night study sessions. She also acknowledged her senior colleagues who guided her by reviewing and supervising her extensive essays.
Sharon extended her thanks to her professors and supervisors for their patience and guidance, as well as her peers and scholarship cohort, whose intellectual discussions and motivation pushed her to exceed her limits. She also expressed appreciation to her pastor, who provided spiritual support, and her parents, whose prayers were a constant source of strength.
Reflecting on her experience, Sharon noted that her time at Oxford had refined her both intellectually and personally, instilling in her a sense of humility and a drive to embrace future opportunities with courage and determination. She is now excited about what the future holds as she continues to build on her skills and pursue new paths.
Sharon’s story is a testament to perseverance, faith, and the power of community support as she continues to forge ahead toward greatness.
