University Lecturer Collapses and Dies During Intimate Encounter with Student in Kogi

A senior lecturer at Kogi State University, Dr. Olabode Abimbola Ibikunle, died during a suspected sexual encounter with a 22-year-old student at a hotel in Anyigba, prompting a police investigation into the incident.

A tragic incident occurred on July 15, 2025, in Anyigba, Kogi State, where Dr. Olabode Abimbola Ibikunle, a senior lecturer at Kogi State University, died during a suspected sexual encounter with a 22-year-old, second-year student identified as Gloria Samuel.

The event took place at a local hotel, where the student reportedly rushed to the reception to seek help after the lecturer collapsed. The hotel manager, Moses Friday, immediately contacted the police. The student was later taken into custody and transferred to the State Criminal Investigation Department (SCID) for further questioning.

Police spokesperson SP William Ovye Aya confirmed the incident and described it as unfortunate. An autopsy has been performed to determine the exact cause of death.

Dr. Ibikunle, who was said to be married with children, had checked into the hotel with the student earlier that day. She is reportedly a student in the Department of Social Studies Education. There are unverified claims that the lecturer consumed multiple energy drinks prior to the incident.

The police have stated that investigations are ongoing, and appropriate action will follow based on the findings.
