UNIZIK Student Apologizes for Confrontation with Lecturer, Shares Her Account of the Incident

A UNIZIK student, who confronted a lecturer by slapping, biting, and tearing his clothes after he requested she delete a video of him, has shared her side of the story and sought forgiveness, explaining that she felt disrespected and was acting in self-defense during the altercation.

A Nnamdi Azikiwe University (UNIZIK) student, who reportedly slapped, bit, and tore a lecturer’s clothing after he requested she delete a video featuring him, has come forward to share her perspective and seek forgiveness.

This revelation was shared in a post that has garnered significant attention on the social media platform X (formerly Twitter).

The student recounted the incident that took place earlier, explaining that she was recording a video with a friend when she suddenly felt a push on her arm, accompanied by the words, “Excuse me.”

Not realizing he was a lecturer and feeling disrespected, she reacted impulsively based on her feelings at that moment.

Almost immediately, someone seized her phone from behind, leading to a struggle.

She later identified the individual as the same man, who held onto her phone until it fell and shattered.

According to her account, the man then grasped her inappropriately, which she perceived as disrespectful as a woman. In her attempt to break free, his clothing was torn.

Here is her complete statement:

“MY SIDE OF THE STORY”

“This morning, around 11 a.m., I was filming a quick video with a friend in the hallway of my lecture room when, without warning, I felt a shove from my left side, along with a curt ‘excuse me.’ Initially, I assumed it was another student, but I was shocked to discover a man—a lecturer, whom I didn’t recognize. I felt helpless, faint, and deeply disrespected.”

“I whispered to my friend, ‘Omo, look at how this lecturer pushed me,’ and my friend attempted to comfort me.”

“Before I could fully process what had just happened, someone tried to snatch my phone from behind me. I clung to it tightly, in disbelief, and turned around to find the same man who had previously shoved me. At that moment, I had no idea he was a lecturer. I pleaded, ‘Sorry, sir, why are you taking my phone?’ but he remained silent, continuing to tug at it until it dropped and broke.”

“I was devastated, lamenting the state of my shattered phone when things turned even worse. The lecturer grasped my breast region, uttering unthinkable words. I was left in shock, trying to understand the nightmare unfolding.”

“As I realized my cleavage was exposed, I pleaded for him to release me, but he disregarded my cries, holding me tightly. His grip left noticeable prints and scratches on my chest.”

“I felt humiliated. I tried to cover myself, pulling my dress together, and in desperation, I said, ‘Sir, I’ll hold you ohh!’ I didn’t mean to intimidate him; I just wanted him to let me go. But he wouldn’t relent. In the heat of the moment, I bit his hand, hoping he would release me, which resulted in accidentally tearing his shirt as I held onto it.”

“The situation escalated, and several students intervened. Moments later, I spotted Theatre Arts students, from his department, approaching armed. I was scared and hurt. Eventually, security arrived and escorted me away in their van.”

“I am still reeling from what occurred. I never intended to disrespect a lecturer; I was reacting to being cornered, defending my dignity and rights as a woman. I sincerely apologize for how I responded, and I hope this situation can be resolved amicably.”

This statement came shortly after videos of the altercation surfaced online, including footage of the initial incident that triggered the confrontation.

As the video spread, many users took to the comment section to express their views.

Here are a few reactions:

@theekachi: “I believe her; she just needs to provide evidence to counter what we initially saw.”

@Invincible2244: “She didn’t know he was a lecturer, but she was looking at him and hissed.”

@Iam_realGben: “What kind of duress involves alcohol or drugs? She deserves to be expelled, and her mother should face consequences too.”

@Etuff_: “Duress or not, she bit someone who hadn’t even touched her 😂 She should be rusticated immediately.”
