A Nigerian nurse recounts how being advised to seek a government bursary instead of receiving help when he begged David Oyedepo for school fees nearly shook his faith, yet he later completed nursing school and now works abroad without the cleric’s assistance.

A Nigerian nurse has shared an emotional story about an encounter he had in 2016 with David Oyedepo, founder of Living Faith Church Worldwide, an experience he says nearly pushed him away from church.
The man, identified on X as @Nrs_Danie, revealed that he gained admission into the Lagos State School of Nursing after sitting for the entrance examination four times. However, he could not afford the ₦230,000 tuition fee and was given just one month to pay or lose the admission.
Desperate for help, he and his mother left their home in Abule Egba as early as 5 a.m. and travelled to Sango Ota to seek assistance from the cleric. They had been active members of the church for about three years and believed their dedication might earn them support.
They waited along the route the bishop usually passed before his first morning service. When he eventually arrived, they rushed forward to plead for help but were stopped by security personnel.
According to the nurse, the bishop advised them to apply for a bursary from the Lagos State Government. The response deeply hurt him, considering how hard he had worked to finally secure admission. He said they returned home in silence, and he cried bitterly, almost questioning his faith.
With time, however, he reflected on the experience and concluded that pastors are human and that faith should be placed in God alone, not in individuals.
Despite receiving no assistance, he completed nursing school and is now working abroad. He said the experience did not stop him from going to church but reshaped his understanding of faith, emphasizing that personal relationship with God matters more than reliance on any pastor.
