Cursory: Akwa Ibom State University students have been arrested over allerged fraudulent activities. The 19 students were accused of romance scam and other fraudulent acts. See full details below.
Operatives of the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission, EFCC, in Akwa Ibom State, have arrested 19 students of the Akwa Ibom State University, Mkpat-Enin, for suspected internet-related offences.
The suspects were detained on Friday at Obong Abasi Lodge and Mfon Obong Lodge, two private hostels in Ikot Akpadem, Mkpat-Enin Local Government Area, Akwa Ibom State.Some of the suspects are suspected of participating in impersonation, fraudulent cryptocurrency transactions, and romance scams.
A number of laptops and mobile phones were recovered from them.The Commission also said that as soon as its inquiries were over, it will take the students to court.
