Young Ghanaian woman Earns phD at 24, Becomes Katya’s youngest female Doctorate Holder

At just 24 years old, Ghanaian scholar Rose Nabi Muthuri earned a PhD in Health Systems from the University of Pretoria, becoming Kenya’s youngest female doctorate holder and inspiring young Africans through her dedication to mental health research and academic excellence.

Rose Nabi Muthuri, an exceptional young scholar from Ghana, has made history by earning a PhD in Health Systems from the University of Pretoria at just 24 years old, making her the youngest female PhD holder in Kenya.

Her academic journey began at the United States International University-Africa in Nairobi, where she graduated magna cum laude with both a Bachelor of Arts in Psychology and a Master of Arts in Counseling Psychology.

During her doctoral research, Rose focused on improving the mental health and well-being of healthcare professionals, identifying gaps in support systems and advocating for sustainable solutions through evidence-based research.

“I realized there was a gap in the positive mental health aspects among the health workforce and chose to pursue a PhD to gain a deeper understanding of their well-being,” she shared.

Despite the challenges, Rose described the PhD journey as both a blessing and the fulfillment of a long-held dream. She hopes her story will inspire other young people to chase their ambitions relentlessly.

“Putting God first keeps me motivated. I draw inspiration from many people and experiences but always stay true to myself—because that’s what makes each person unique,” she said.

Rose plans to continue leveraging research to strengthen global health systems and promote emotional resilience in the medical field.
