Akeem Stoby, the first in his family to graduate from university with a degree in Accountancy, overcame challenges with his family’s support and now hopes to inspire others in his community.

Akeem Stoby, a determined young man from South America, has achieved a historic milestone by becoming the first in his family to graduate from university, earning a Bachelor’s degree in Accountancy from the University of Guyana.
Akeem’s success has inspired his siblings, particularly his sister, who has now enrolled at the same university, following in his footsteps. His journey was challenging; he began his studies while unemployed and without a laptop. Thanks to his family’s unwavering support, including a laptop provided by his eldest sibling, Akeem was able to overcome these obstacles.
While studying, he took on leadership roles such as serving as treasurer of the University of Guyana Student Society (UGSS) and representing his faculty, experiences he believes significantly shaped his ambitions and character.
Aiming to become a Chartered Accountant, Akeem hopes to inspire others in his community. “I want to be the person that young children look up to and say, ‘I want to be like Akeem,’” he shared.
