11-Year-Old Prodigy Graduates High School and Joins Texas Christian University to Study Physics

At just 11 years old, Cannan Huey-You graduated high school, gained admission to Texas Christian University to study physics, and aspires to become an astronaut while being supported by his family and inspired by his equally accomplished brother, Carson.

At just 11 years old, Cannan Huey-You has achieved an extraordinary academic milestone by graduating from Accommodated Learning Academy, a private Christian high school in the United States. Following in the footsteps of his older brother, Carson Huey-You, Cannan has been admitted to Texas Christian University (TCU), where he will pursue a bachelor’s degree in physics.

Even before enrolling at TCU, Cannan demonstrated his academic brilliance. While still in high school, he collaborated with Dr. Kat Barger, an assistant professor at TCU, on a research project involving radio observations of gas clouds near the Milky Way. His passion for astronomy made him a natural fit for the project.

“I met Dr. Kat, and she told me about her research program. Mom decided it would be good to work on,” Cannan shared.

Cannan and his brother Carson, also a prodigy, were homeschooled by their mother, Claretta Kimp, until they were five years old. When Cannan expressed a desire to attend school with his friends, Claretta enrolled him in kindergarten. He excelled socially and academically but soon found the curriculum unchallenging. By first grade, Cannan requested to accelerate his education. After testing, he skipped several grades and began eighth grade at the age of seven, where he quickly adapted and formed friendships with older peers.

As Cannan begins his journey at TCU, his mother Claretta remains a constant source of support for both him and Carson. “I’m just blessed that I can be with them on campus five days a week,” she said. Claretta credits TCU’s supportive environment and mentors, including Dr. Magnus Rittby, for helping her sons thrive. “TCU is our family. When I need help, they are there for me. I couldn’t do it alone,” she added.

Unlike typical sibling dynamics, the Huey-You brothers share a unique relationship. Carson, who is pursuing advanced studies, often tutors Cannan in college classrooms. Their sibling rivalry is limited to playful lightsaber battles, according to their mother.

Looking ahead, Cannan dreams of earning a PhD in astrophysics, just like Carson, and becoming an astronaut. His aspiration to explore space was solidified after meeting astronaut Anousheh Ansari, who encouraged him to diversify his skills. Inspired by her advice, Cannan is considering adding an engineering degree to his academic journey to strengthen his path to space exploration.

The Huey-You brothers continue to inspire many with their achievements, proving that with passion, dedication, and support, even the sky is not the limit.
