Nigerian Graduate Narrates How Sharing His Life Story Secured Him a Job in a UK Company

A Nigerian Engineer identified as @taadelodun has narrated how he used his life story to secure a job at a UK Engineering firm.

According to the young man, he got the job after sharing the challenges he faced while growing up as a response to being asked if he can work under pressure.

Narrating what happened, he wrote: “I went into an interview to work for a Tier I UK Engineering company. They asked me the question, “how good are you working under pressure?

“I am the first child of an African family. I have been under pressure from day one. I went to a primary school my parents couldn’t afford

“So I had to become first in class every term to keep the scholarship. My books were used to teach my siblings at home, they were out of school, so I couldn’t afford to be 2nd in class I didn’t leave the compound before they phoned that I got the job.

Remember to tell your story,” he Tweeted.

@jyed_aiye : “I just called my 9yrs old son to read this and had a chat with him about the privileges he has, the academic support system and how he must take ownership of his academics and be a role model for his younger sister.”

@Pacifique_Nteta: “Let’s be honest here, most first born children from the middle/poor class families in africa lived under pressure especially back in the days. I don’t see a problem with him saying that cause it’s actually true, do ask around and you find out.”

@SimisolaTomori : “I can so relate to this,I am the first girl and I had to take several menial jobs, worked so hard to take care of my younger sister when my mum left us both at 17 and 19.I had to grow up so fast to take the mum responsibility to my dad&my 3 brothers.”

@jam63574884: “Congratulations, every Nigerian is born to work under pressure, u wake up early to beat holdups, u stand for hours at bank just to deposit or withdraw your hard earned money under pressure too. We in Nigeria are Pressured all around. Think of insecurity, u are pressured.”
