CURSORY: Academic Staff Union of Universities is meeting with it’s members today to discuss their next step.
Following the ruling by the Appeal Court, ordering the Academic Staff Union of Universities, ASUU, to suspend its 8-month-old strike with immediate effect, the union would be meeting on Sunday (today).
How we got here:
FG had taken ASUU to Industrial court and requested that ASUU call off their now-eight-month-old strike, citing that the strike violates students’ right to education, a request the court granted.
However, ASUU’s legal team took to Appeal Court to appeal the ruling.
The Appeal court at first suggested that both ASUU and FG find an out-of-court method to resolve their issue, something they haven’t been able to do for over seven months now.
A few days after the suggestion, the Appeal Court asked ASUU to call off their strike before they can attend to their appeal.
Nigerians are now waiting for the ASUU to either obey the order or disobey it.
After this emergency meeting, it is expected that ASUU will make its decision public. Hopefully, they will call off the strike.
